Accreditation

National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC): The NAEYC accreditation process is designed for many types of early childhood programs – childcare centers, preschools, school-age programs and kindergartens. The National Academy of Early Childhood Programs in Washington, D.C. administers the program. Montana scholarships are available for the full validation fee, which is based on the number of children served in the program and ranges from $300 to $700. The application fee (also based on numbers of children) must be paid by the program.

National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC): The NAFCC accreditation process is designed for family and group home child care programs. The accreditation involves a self-study, parent surveys and an observer visit. The fee is $495 with membership in NAFCC. Full scholarships are available.

How Do I Get Started?

  1. Call the NAEYC at 1-800-424-2460 or NAFCC at 1-800-359-3817 to request an accreditation and membership application. Join the organization in order to receive its national newsletter and the reduced rate for accreditation. You can also access this information via their websites. Click links above.

  2. Keep track of all your training in early care and education and ask for a certificate of approved training (when you attend training in Montana) so you can document hours of training over the past 2 years.

  3. Contact the Early Childhood Project (1-800-213-6310) to request an NAFCC or NAEYC Accreditation Scholarship to help you pay the cost of accreditation.

  4. Contact Family Connections' Provider Services Department at (406) 761-6010 or 1-800-696-4503 with questions or request for assistance.
